Private WoW

I'm guessing that you want to know how to play on someone else's private server, not create your own, so here we go. :)

Things you'll need:

World of Warcraft (der.)
Internet connection (duh.)
Some sort of word processor (Preferably textedit, Word works too)

Steps:

1. Install World of Warcraft, but DO NOT OPEN WoW! If you already have WoW installed and patched, I'm sorry, but you'll have to install it again.

2. Go to http://www.wowstatus.net/ and click on the "Private server status" button to the right of the page.

3. Find a server that you think you'll like. There are many different server types, ranging from blizzlike (exp rates and drop rates in-game are pretyy much the same as Blizzard's servers) to funserver (i've seen a server with 2500x exp). Once you've got one, click on it's title.

4. Check to see what patch the server runs on. Once you know what the patch is, open the WoW launcher and go to options. Set it so that it never automatically patches WoW. Next, get the patches from the internet. I get most of them from http://www.gamershell.com/. Make sure that they are the mac patch installer, not the pc version. Once you've patched WoW to the private server version, go back to the private server's page on http:////www.wowstatus.net/ .

5. In the serveradress column, look to see if there is an ip address or a server address (a server address is usually something like server.serveraddress.com) If there is an ip adress, skip to step 6.

6. If there is a server address, go to http://www.selfseo.com/find_ip_address_of_a_website.php and enter the server address in the box and click the "get ip" button. Keep the window open so that you have the ip adress availible.

7. Go to your World of Warcraft folder.

8. In it, you'll see a file called "realmlist.wtf" Open it with your word processor.

9. You'll see either "set realmlist to us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com" or "set realmlist to eu.logon.worldofwarcraft" You may have something else Replace the us/eu/something else.blah.blah with the ip address of the private server you want to go to. Save the file.

10. Go back to the server's page on wowstatus.net and find the server's registration page link. Click on the link and follow the directions so that you can register for the server. I would suggest creating a new email on a free email provider for the required email for registration, as they can sometimes send spam your way.

11. Now you can open up WoW! When WoW loads, enter the username and password that you registered for. You should connect and be ready to play right away. Any problems that you have with the server itself you should ask about in the server forums. (Most private servers have forums)

12. Have fun!

Re: New IRC Client

Conversation was a piece of crap. I mean...it was gorgeous and fun, but it was PowerPC and thus was a ram-sucking ghost hustler. Piece of shit..*grumble*

Back to Colloquy...which..is very nice...and I couldn't remember why I had the nerve to switch in the first place.
